There are several treatments for melanoma but the best treatment depends on the stage of cancer that you have.

Common Procedures for Melanoma Treatment

Surgery

You may wish to have your affected lymph nodes removed through surgery. This is necessary especially after your surgeon realizes that it has spread to your lymph nodes. Of course, additional treatments may be recommended to further assure the fast treatment of your melanoma.

Chemotherapy

This is a very strong drug that is used to destroy cancer cells. It can be administered intravenously or in pill form. Nevertheless, the most common form of administration is through the veins of the arm or in the legs through isolated limb perfusion. During this treatment, the blood in the leg or the arm isn’t allowed to travel to other areas of the body for a particular period of time so the chemotherapy drug will directly travel to around the infected area.

Radiation Therapy

This kind of treatment employs a high-powered energy beam, like those which are used in x-rays, to help kill cancer cells.  It is preferred as treatment for symptoms of melanoma that has spread to other organs. Nevertheless, patients who will undergo these treatment procedures should prepare to experience fatigue because of the extreme amount of energy which your body will utilize while undergoing surgery.

Biological Therapy or Immunotherapy

This will help boost your immune system that is essential in helping the body fight cancer. It is composed of substances that are naturally produced by the body but are manufactured in laboratories.  Side effects that are associated with this treatment include chill, fever, headache, fatigue, and muscle aches.

There are other experimental melanoma treatments which are being researched and observed by scientists and researchers. And we still await the success and effectiveness of these procedures.
