Melanoma is the sixth most common type of cancer in both men and women. But even with this rate, doctors state that 95% of these cases are curable if diagnosed at an early stage.

Simple Preventive Measures to Avoid the Melanoma Cancer

Melanoma cancer is best prevented if people will refrain from getting exposed to UVA and UVB rays which is at its peak during 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon. It is best to apply a sunscreen with a broad-spectrum, typically that which contains SPF of 15 or higher before going out during this period of the day. Other ingredients found in sunscreens that are also beneficial include salicylates, sulisobenzone, cinnametes, benzophenones, ecamsule and avobenzone. But for persons with sensitive types of skin, it is best to use chemical free-sunblocks which contains either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
If you will stay too long under the sun, especially during the summer months is it advised that you reapply sunscreen lotion every two hours.

Wear protective clothing especially when driving using your motorcycle or walking near the beach or at the park. Wear wide-brimmed hats, long sleeved shirt, long pants and sunglasses to protect not only your skin but your eyes as well.

Avoid going to reflective surfaces like snow, water and sand because it can reflect up to eighty five percent of the damaging rays from the sun.

Avoid application of tanning solution because most of these products are rejected by the FDA due to it carcinogenic contents.

Apply lip balm which has sunscreen of SPF fifteen or higher to protect your lips from the sun’s rays.

Educate your children to refrain exposure from the sun during the above mentioned hours because studies show that excessive exposure under the sun during the first eighteen years of a person’s life is crucial in the development of melanoma.
